Loy Krathong

On Monday Lizzie and Nat invited us to help them celebrate a Thai festival called Loy Krathong.  This festival is a celebration to the Rivers Spirit, who gives her abundance and to celebrate the end of the monsoon season.

On the full moon in November, lighted lanterns are floated on rivers and waterways throughout Thailand.  They are made of all different sizes and shapes.  The lanterns often carry incense, coins and candles.   People make a wish or put their troubles on the lantern and then let it go.

The lanterns are usually made of woven banana leaves shaped like the lotus flower.

Lizzie had made some special bread, for us to use as a base for our flowers.  The children then set out making their own lotus flowers.

After some lovely food and a play, we headed off to millhouses park to float the lanterns.

Thank you Lizzie, Nat, and family for letting us share your special day.xxx

Making presents for our friends

Jasmin and I  had a craft day making presents for one of our closest home ed friends.  We had been invited over for lunch and wanted to take some presents with us.

We made decoupage teddies and a dog. Jasmin also made a book mark by sticking a piece of cardboard in-between two different coloured felt pieces, cutting it to size.  She decorated it using gems and 3d fabric paint.

The day flew by and Jasmin was so pleased, she couldn't wait to take them over the next day.xxxx

Colour coded part three - Jasmin's designs

Jasmin has been working making different designs on paper since attending the colour coded exhibition at Western Park Museum.

She has really enjoyed working on this project.

colour coded part two and Jasmin's photos part two

After having a lovely dog walk in the morning and Jasmin getting used to her camera.  We headed off to the museum to have a look again at the colour coded exhibition.

Jasmin and Isabelle really took notice of the pictures, and how they were made out of recycled material.   The girls then had a go at making their own designs.

It was really interesting to revisit this exhibit after taking part in the workshop.

The girls then had a fab play in the rest of the museum, sorting out the money in the butchers shop and taking it in turns to be the shop keeper.

The photos below were taken by Jasmin. (apart from the first one and the last two)

Jasmin and Isabelle spent ages sorting out the money in the butchers shop.

Jasmin's first photos

Jasmin has been asking for a camera for ages, she says that when I take photographs I don't take them from her level or from her point of view.  So on Saturday we had a trip to town and chose her a camera.    It was important to her that it was an adult camera, just like mummy's and daddy's.

This morning we went on a dog walk with Sascha and Jasmin took her camera.

Here are her first pictures.

Our First Half Term.xxx

I really can't believe we have had our first half term home educating.  The time has flown by and has been so positive.

We have had  such an amazing start to our journey; making new friends, creating projects, spending time together, joining different groups just to name a few.

Jasmin has grown so much already.  Her confidence and desire to learn is just fantastic.

I feel truly blessed and thankful that I am in this position.
