Loy Krathong

On Monday Lizzie and Nat invited us to help them celebrate a Thai festival called Loy Krathong.  This festival is a celebration to the Rivers Spirit, who gives her abundance and to celebrate the end of the monsoon season.

On the full moon in November, lighted lanterns are floated on rivers and waterways throughout Thailand.  They are made of all different sizes and shapes.  The lanterns often carry incense, coins and candles.   People make a wish or put their troubles on the lantern and then let it go.

The lanterns are usually made of woven banana leaves shaped like the lotus flower.

Lizzie had made some special bread, for us to use as a base for our flowers.  The children then set out making their own lotus flowers.

After some lovely food and a play, we headed off to millhouses park to float the lanterns.

Thank you Lizzie, Nat, and family for letting us share your special day.xxx
